In a world of youth craving colour, freedom and identity after the rising popularity of millennial beige and minimalism in fashion, art and décor, it makes complete sense that the style of the 60s is making a comeback.

 

How 60s fashion shaped the world.

In complete contrast to the femininity and hourglass, pristine looks that defined the 1950s, the 1960s was the decade of rebellion. Young people, particularly in Swinging London were influencing fashion with art and music.

The hemline rose, with many thanks to Mary Quant, and clothes were playful (and even slightly political at the time). Outfits were no longer made to show off the waist. They were freeing and casual.

The digital age has showcased trends moving at lightspeed, yet still, the fashion of the 1960s never appears to be ‘out’ and always showcases itself in one shape or another. It was the first time youth culture really took over and clothing was created without rules and with the sole purpose to be fun and exciting!

It was the first time that genderfluid silhouettes and aesthetics came about, even before we knew what that meant.

It combined art, music, fashion and rebellion and will always have its place in the fashion hall of fame.
