Line Dancing at Born in the U.S.A.: Building Community Through Music and Vintage Style

Keeping the Momentum Going

After the opening of our third shop, Born in the U.S.A., and the excitement and success of our hosted charity event for CoppaFeel! (if you’ve not read our post about this yet, go and check it out!), we wanted to keep the momentum going.

Our shops have always been about more than just clothing, so we set out to use them as spaces for community events — bringing together people who love all things vintage and have a passion for great music, whether they’ve stepped foot in one of our shops before or not. The timing of our American shop couldn’t have been better, coinciding perfectly with the rise in popularity of country music and all things western. We’ve loved this opportunity to expand our vintage western wear and celebrate some of our favourite artists, including Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, and many more. How could we bring all this together? That’s when our idea of hosting line dancing classes was born!

The First Line Dancing Event

Our American shop is the perfect setting, with its rustic feel, wooden floors, and ample space. We hosted our first line dancing event in mid-November as a way to celebrate the shop’s first month of opening. We had no idea how many people would be interested or how many would turn up, but after advertising all over town and inviting our wonderful customers, we were blown away by the response.

Over 30 people joined us for our very first class, many of whom had never visited our shops before. It was the perfect opportunity to grow our community, and in true Pretty in Pink style, the night was filled with fun, great energy, and fizzing prosecco.

Learning the Routines

Our amazing instructor Laura guided us through three different routines, each danced to a different song and varying in difficulty. The class was completely beginner friendly, with Country Girl quickly becoming a firm crowd favourite. Picking up the trickier steps led to lots of laughter, with everyone helping each other out and really cementing that sense of community.

Laura brought such a relaxed, joyful approach to the class, exactly what we’d hoped for, and when it ended, we still couldn’t stop dancing. Thank you to everyone who came along and brought the magic to our Pretty in Pink late-night event.

What’s Next? Weekly Line Dancing

After absolutely loving the energy the evening brought, we couldn’t wait to get more classes in the diary. We decided to host line dancing every Thursday evening up until Christmas, mixing new routines each week and offering 15% discount off all vintage sales throughout the night.

With country music playing, double denim styling and cowboy hats at the ready, it truly feels like we’re bringing a small taste of Nashville to Shrewsbury.

If you love vintage clothing, great music, or you’re a local Salopian and haven’t joined us yet, this is your sign! You’ll find us every Thursday evening at our American shop, glass of fizz in hand and ready to dance the night away.
